Coming into this seminar I wasn't the most sustainable, or had a ton of prior knowledge about the effects of my carbon footprint. As my role as a food scientist, I truly realized how big of an impact I can make. I can make simple changes by eating local and reducing my food waste.

During our trip, I realized how PR and communications can be used to change the opinions and view points of those who do not want to enact change. Communication tools can be implemented to change the conversation around sustainability. I cannot stress how eye opening this experience was. These countries are so ahead of their times. They are so innovative and thoughtful in all that they do. Looking back at our day with the Sami, I think some valuable lessons can be taken from the U.S. The Sami showed me that there is way for countries to work with and along side indigenous people. The roaming laws and 1/3 law (Sweden is 1/3 city, 1/3 industry, and 1/3 wild) has changed my perspective on policy and law. These laws truly shape the way of life in these countries for the better. Throughout the trip, I was constantly reflecting on my own habits. I hope that in the next few weeks, months, and year I start to make a change in my lifestyle to live more sustainably. This seminar is an experience I will never forget!
